TEE IT UP TUESDAY
September 22, 2026Know When to Attack—and When to Defend on the Golf Course
One bad golf shot doesn’t have to turn into a blow-up hole. Often, the bigger problem isn’t the original mistake—it’s the decisions golfers make afterward.
In this week’s Tee It Up Tuesday, I share a simple course-management strategy for knowing when to play offense and when to play defense. When you’re in a good position, it’s time to attack. But when a shot puts you in trouble, your strategy should change.
That’s when “bogey is the new par.” Instead of attempting the hero shot and compounding the mistake, get the ball back into position, eliminate the big number, and give yourself a chance to save par or make bogey. One bad swing doesn’t have to become three bad decisions.
This edition also highlights several ways to improve your game at Durland Golf School this fall, including limited availability in upcoming three-day golf schools, fall clinics and short game programs, and remote coaching through CoachNow.
Also featured is Drive & Spec, a new two-hour driver instruction and club fitting experience combining TrackMan instruction with Mark Durland and GCQuad fitting with True Spec Golf’s Matt Markle.
