TEE IT UP TUESDAY
October 6, 2026Hit More Greens: Stop Aiming at Every Flagstick
One of the biggest mistakes golfers make on the course is aiming at too many flagsticks. Just because you can see the pin doesn’t mean it’s the smartest target.
In this week’s Tee It Up Tuesday, I explain how understanding your shot pattern and predominant miss can help you make better decisions, hit more greens in regulation, and ultimately shoot lower scores.
During playing lessons, I often remind students that even professional golfers don’t aim at every flagstick. The key is understanding where your typical shots finish and choosing targets that give you the greatest margin for error.
Aiming at the middle of the green rather than a tucked pin can help you avoid costly short-sided misses and unnecessary bogeys. It’s not about playing scared or making tentative swings. It’s about making an aggressive, committed swing toward a conservative target.
Remember: Conservative target, aggressive swing.
This edition also highlights upcoming opportunities at Durland Golf School, including limited availability in the December 1–3 and January 26–28 half-day golf schools, along with fall clinics and short game programs.
